Lovely People, Wrong Model...

Lovely People, Wrong Model ….

I was in Orlando 2 weeks ago at an amazing conference and one of the articles I read was about the latest approach in colon cancer prevention.  It was written by Dr Harinath Sheela a leading Gastroenterologist in Florida.

The entire article entitled “Colon Cancer…You Can Prevent It” talks about knowing the symptoms of colon cancer, having regular colonoscopies and beginning colonoscopies at a younger age.

The inherent flaw in this entire article is that nothing actually has to do with prevention.  In fact very little of all medicine has to do with true health and prevention.  You see, a colonoscopy is only useful to find cancer.  That means that you already have to be sick in order for this to show anything.  Just like checking blood for high cholesterol is not prevention.  You are already sick if your score is high.

True health and sickness prevention is about doing things to make sure that you don’t get sick.  Although there are no guarantee’s, you can take away at least 95% of the risk.

Being healthy is NOT about having some colonoscopy, mammogram, stress test, blood test or stool sample detect your problem and then attempting to kill or manage the disease with medications.

Being healthy is making sure that you don’t get diseased.  Get adjusted, eat well, get oxygen to your body (exercise), de-stress, and eliminate disease causing toxins like pesticides, chemicals in processed foods and refined sugars.

The field of medicine is full of lovely people who truly want to help.  The problem is that the entire model of medicine is flawed.  Waiting until sickness comes and finding more powerful ways of combating disease will never change the world.
Keeping well people well by focusing on true health is the only way.

Be Amazingly Blessed (and you are),
Dr. Matt
